Privacy Policy

We respect your privacy. This policy explains how Drive Local handles personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

1. Who we are

Drive Local (drivelocal.com.au) is a Victorian driving school platform connecting learners with accredited instructors. In this policy, "we" and "us" means Drive Local.

2. What we collect

  • Learners: name, email, mobile, suburb, learner permit number, preferred transmission, pickup and drop-off addresses, and booking and lesson history.
  • Instructors: name, contact details, photo, bio, vehicle details, service areas, availability, ABN, bank details for payouts, and credential records such as Driving Instructor Authority, Working with Children Check and insurance details.
  • Everyone: account and sign-in details, reviews, messages to us, and basic technical data such as device and browser information.

3. How we use it

To create and manage accounts, arrange and confirm lessons, match learners with local instructors, process payments and instructor payouts, verify instructor accreditation, handle safety issues and complaints, improve our service, and meet legal obligations. We'll only send marketing with your consent, in line with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth), and you can unsubscribe at any time.

4. Who we share it with

  • Your instructor sees only what they need for your lesson, such as your name, mobile and pickup address.
  • Trusted service providers for hosting, sign-in, email and payments, under confidentiality obligations.
  • Government bodies such as VicRoads or regulators where required or authorised by law.

We never sell your personal information. Some providers may store data outside Australia; we take reasonable steps to make sure they protect it consistently with the APPs.

5. Keeping it secure

Data is encrypted in transit, access is limited by role, and instructor credential records are private to the instructor and our admins. We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law (for example, tax records), then delete or de-identify it.

6. Access, correction and deletion

You can view and update most details in your dashboard. You can also ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete your account. We'll respond within 30 days.

7. Data breaches

If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we'll notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.

8. Cookies

We use essential cookies and local storage to keep you signed in and make the site work. We don't use them to sell advertising.

9. Complaints

Please contact us first. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the OAIC (oaic.gov.au, 1300 363 992).

This policy is general information and does not limit any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law or other Australian or Victorian law.
